Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the Canary Islands. It lies east of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. The island is of volcanic origin. The highest mountain Pico de Las Nieves is located at an altitude of 1,949 m. The island has a round shape with a diameter of about 50 km and a circumference of 236 kilometers, with 50 km of beaches.
